Lex Amor and Bel Cobain (pictured) released a new track this week, ‘At the Bay’. It’s been released in collaboration with The Silhouettes Project, and is the first of fifteen singles being released each week, culminating in an album release in December.
The Silhouettes Project is a Hackney-based community endeavour that provides a recording studio and live performance venue for local musicians and creatives, hoping to raise the profile of local artists and protect the space from growing gentrification. The studio and venue space is located in Hackney’s Total Refreshment Centre.
On their motivation to set up the project, Korner and Osei-Bonsu explain, “There is a desperate need for spaces in which people can come together and develop their creative potential, especially with the consistent withdrawal of funding from the arts sector in the UK and with the constant threat of gentrification which has seen the closure of countless community and grassroots creative organisations.
“As artists ourselves, we understood that the creative process can be challenging and sometimes isolating, especially when there is no clear support network to fall back on.”
Lex Amor started becoming noticed in 2016 for her understated and measured rap style. She has a monthly show on Reprezent Radio called Mellowdic. Bel Cobain has been releasing singles since 2018, and slowly building up a faithful following with her soulful and laid-back delivery.
