After hitting the turntables aged 11, Dean NIcholson has played all kinds of music. He first got to grips with vinyl on a pair of Garrard SP25 MKIV’s which were encased inside a Citronic Hawaii DJ case back in 1984 after a neighbour and friend (Shaun Dowling) handed them down. These decks were oldskool…so old they didn’t have pitch controls….it was all done with the fingers!

Shaun Dowling was also paramount in Dean’s early love of Electro, Funk, Raregroove and Hip-hop, genres that would take him down the House, Breakbeat Hardcore, Jungle and DnB road later in life.

After playing house parties and small private “Raves” (Normally in somebodies Garage) Dean finally got a break whilst residing in Portugal and was given his first Club set at a popular and underground club called Silver Screen in 1997. This was where Dean heard the Dream House/Trance and quickly found himself caught up the Balearic vibe of the time. The experience he gained from watching older more experienced DJ’s was paramount to his style of play today.

Whilst Living in the Algarve Dean met his First wife and moved back to the UK in 1999 to start a family and put the club scene on hold, but continued to ply his trade as a pub/venue DJ holding down three resident slots in two of Lewisham’s more popular pub’s and as one of Hollywood Bowls most successful DJ’s in the UK.

In 2016 after being away from the industry for so long, music was the last thing on Dean’s mind, but a gift from his brother Carl (Nicholson) soon changed that!!! Armed with a pair of loaned CDJ 1000 Mk3’s Dean rekindled his love for music and decided to throw himself back into the mix (pun intended)

Bursting back onto the scene in 2017 Dean through himself into everything, even giving life to his older DJ name that is D-Manic and started putting together mixtapes of House, Techno, Breakbeat Hardcore, Jungle DnB and even the old skool hip hop as both Dean Nicholson and also D-Manic. Dean took his D-Manic brand to a Radio station called TF Live and it was not long after that Dean scored his first Residency with Art playing Trance Music. Dean has since separated his two brands and is focusing on Trance as Dean Nicholson.

Since the comeback Dean has supported legends such as Graham Gold, Orjan Nilsen, Mark Sixma, Marcel Woods, Jon Pleased Wimmen, DJ Luck and MC Neat and been on the same line ups as John Askew, Rob Tissera, Paul King, Nicholson, Greg Downey, Phil Reynolds, So solid Crew, Lisa Mafia, JP  & Jukesy, and many more.

Dean Nicholson has also been busy on the production side which is something new for him. His debut Track The Devils Gambit “Nicholson remix” (Art Recordings) was the labels biggest seller on Beatport and received support from John Askew amongst others. His first attempt at remixing a track by Micky Crilley called also well received by DJ’s and fans alike. https://www.beatport.com/search?q=dean+nicholson

With bookings at a new Trance event called Flotation things are definitely looking up for this Dark Horse in the wings and with constant support from his brother Carl Nicholson who himself is a massive talent in the industry…it will only get better!!!
