Ben Fairhurst is Fhurst.
Ben Fairhurst is DJ Fhurst. Hailing from Perth,
Australia he has been mixing since 1999 and played his first set at a university
rave the following year.
In the early days the sound of Fhurst was dominated by trancey grooves and hard
acid basslines with inspiration being drawn from the trance scene of the late
1990's.
That sound kept changing as Ben made his way across Europe before moving to
London in 2005. By the time he left Perth Ben had reached the finals of the big
room to bedroom dj competition along with dropping several sets in and around
the Perth clubbing scene at clubs such as Rise, the Apartment and the Spirit
Soundbar to name a few.
Since arriving in London Ben teamed up with long time partner in crime DJ Moore
to form the Critical Boys and together they took up a residency at London's
firehouse night club during the latter half of 2006.
During the time the Critical Boys were in action they played several sets in and
around London at clubs which including the Brixton Jam and the Whitehouse for
Lucky Life promotions, Zulus and Revolver.
2007 saw the Critical Boys take up their weekly slot at World Dance Radio on
Fridays from 8 to 10pm and the sound of Fhurst took on an electro feel as that
sound pushed itself onto the London clubbing scene.
With DJ Moore back in Australia dj Fhurst took over the running of the show solo
and things just got a whole lot more phatter!
Predominantly a house dj Fhurst keeps to his Australian roots by regularly
dropping breaks in his sets and is still influenced by the rock culture he was
brought up on as a kid as shown by the rock crossover tunes found in most of his
sets.
In 2009 DJ Fhurst has been dropping some down right filthy grinding techno into
his sets which continue to push for a more underground feeling.
Fhurst scored his first set in Ibiza at Play 2 during June 2008 touring on
behalf of Lucky Life promotions with the Heat Ibiza party train. He returned in
2009 to play live on world dance radio from Kanya Beach Bar, followed by a set
at Eden for Judgment Sundays and Plastik nightclub for the Tribes outfit.
After playing and generally going nuts in Ibiza again this year DJ Fhurst's
sound has maintained a real hands in the air feel to it without losing his
original gritty and dirty essence.
Watch this space as DJ Fhurst continues his push for dj domination!
With a trip back to the white isle pegged for September 2009, things are
certainly looking up for this dj!
One things for sure, wherever Fhurst is, the bassline is phat, the speakers are
shaking and the bodies are moving!
So, tune in to shock out with dj Fhurst and his weekly Sounds on Saturdays show
live on Worlddance Radio from 6 to 8pm GMT
