Gin drinkers labeled as psychopaths says study

Gin drinkers have been reduced to the category of psychopaths, according to experts.

So, if you enjoy a gin and tonic on a hot summer’s day, chances are you have been right about all the times you wondered whether or not you were crazy.

Of course, there are crazy people who are not gin drinkers , but perhaps they are simply in a different category of psychopaths. Apparently, being attracted to bitter tastes is the underlying factor connecting gin drinkers to the likeness of psychopaths.

According to psychology experts, those who drink gin and tonics are more likely to have psychopathic tendencies.

Dark chocolate, coffee, and gin

You may feel personally attacked if you enjoy things such as dark chocolate, coffee, and gin and tonic. Because, according to researchers from the Innsbruck University in Austria, if you are into bitter foods then you are likely to have tendencies that lean towards “Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, and everyday sadism”.

The researchers carried out two separate experiments with one thousand subjects. They were asked to examine and rank a long list of food and beverages. After the food section they answered questions about their personalities. These were designed to measure their psychopathic tendencies. They had to rate how much they agreed with statements such as “I enjoy tormenting people”. Somehow gin drinkers fit this.

The idea is most people are put off by bitter tastes because those are associated with poisonous or wild foods. Psychopaths on the other hand are fearless and for this reason they are attracted to bitter foods. This seems like a broad stretch generalisation but researchers need to fill their time doing something.

“Everyday sadism is a construct related to benign Masochism – the enjoyment of painful activities – which was first described and investigated by psychologist Paul Rozin. To quote Paul Rozin for an explanation: ‘For the case of innately aversive foods, there may be pleasure from the fact that the body is signaling rejection, but the person knows there is no real threat’, said the study’s author Christina Sagioglou on the psychopaths research.
